Case in point, this Guardian article today...

I've spent the past ten days in London. It's been cool. I saw some excellent art. Katka came over for the weekend and we ate some terrific food. I popped in on the Prince Caspian post-production crew and got to connect with those blighters. Saw a friend from the Russia days who I hadn't seen in about 14 years.

London makes quite a contrast with Luxembourg. All-in-all, not bad, but I would not like to live here. Why? Well, there are closed-circuit cameras *everywhere* and the atmosphere feels slightly paranoid to me. It's one thing to try to minimize crime; it's quite another to try to eliminate it altogether.

It's quite a lovely morning so far as the clouds have blown off and the sun is busy heating the air back towards a Summerlike temperature. One can but hope...I'm off to Belgium all next week, London (most likely), another stint in Belgium, then off to Naples, Italy. Gosh, it's going to be good to get back to a full-time gig after this past stretch of consulting work but on the other hand my travel schedule makes me a bit dizzy. Nadya appears to have stopped her shedding for the time being. What else is new? Oh, well, it appears that I'm going to be speaking at LISA this year so I'm listening to lots of past invited talks to get inspired. (Haven't done much public speaking lately...) It's pretty cool to be able to pop a bunch of invited talks on my $mp3_player and improve my bad self whilst walking the pooch 'round the neighborhood. Big plus: because they're so much longer than the average podcast Nadya is getting longer walks. Katka has been settling into her new job at the European Commission. I guess that's about it for now, so bye!

I just moved to Luxembourg over the weekend. After spending several days putting flat-pack furniture back together and unpacking boxes I decided to start on my long-needed homepage makeover. It appears that I've got a bit of free time before I start my new job so hopefully I'll finish pulling in some of the content from my old homepage. The sun is riding low as the afternoon wanes and I think I'm going to have a beer now. This works, so I'm uploading it.
